RE: A beef slaughterhouse in Nevada County

Print Comment
In regards to the article of Sept. 3, "A beef slaughterhouse in Nevada County?"

This is an antiquated and appalling proposal when we are trying to stabilize the planet by adopting environmentally wise living habits.

Nevada County should set an example by going green, not red from the blood of a slaughterhouse. If our planet is in an environmental crisis we need to be wise in our method of food production. The word "slaughterhouse" says it all.

The United States Agricultural Research Service calls the heavily contaminated runoff and sewage from America's thousands of slaughterhouses and feed lots a major source of pollution of the nation's rivers and streams.

We moved to Nevada County 29 years ago because we felt it was a peaceful place to raise our kids. Bringing cattle, chickens, etc., into our county for slaughter will ruin our country, all in the name of profit.

Albert Einstein said it best: "Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chance for survival on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet."
