Week 1
Nevada Union at Ponderosa
7:15 p.m. Sept. 12
Ponderosa and the Miners have never before met on the football field. Ponderosa, coming off a 9-3 season that saw victories over Grant and Cordova, have their leading rusher Lyndell Scarr returning this fall. Scarr ran for 1,558 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore.
Directions: Take I-80 west to Sunrise Blvd. and head south to Highway 50. Head back east on Highway 50 to the Ponderosa Road exit. Go north about one mile to Ponderosa High School.
Week 2
Rocklin at Nevada Union
7:15 p.m. Sept. 19
Rocklin’s Thunder is coming off an 8-2 campaign that produced wins over Ponderosa (16-10), Laguna Creek (34-0), Vintage (28-14) and Granite Bay (33-0). Rocklin graduated its top three rushers, but expect to return Jackson Cummings, who ran for 352 yards and six touchdowns in ’07.
Week 3
Cesar Chavez at Nevada Union
7:15 p.m. Sept. 26
The two teams have not met in football, in which Cesar Chavez has been only competing at the varsity level since 2005. That didn’t stop the Stockton area school to produce a 7-3 record last season. Leading rusher Demareya Nelson, who ran for 1,108 yards and 10 touchdowns, is expected to return to the lineup this fall.
Week 4
Nevada Union at Natomas
7:15 p.m. Oct. 3
Another new opponent to Nevada Union, the Natomas Nighthawks are coming off a tough 2007 slate that finished with a 1-9 record. Senior Austin Pena is expected to return at quarterback, where he completed 44 percent of his passes for 825 yards, six touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
Week 5
Franklin (Stockton) at Nevada Union
7:15 p.m. Oct. 10
Last time (2007): This one eventually ended up in the win column for Nevada Union, but only after Franklin was forced to forfeit its entire season due to violations of the section’s rules on recruiting. The game ended with the Yellow Jackets owning a 45-21 win. Franklin is expected to return two of its three leading rushers, including Fred Jones (1,093 yards and 11 TD) and Johnny Walker (472 yards and 6 TD).
Week 6
Nevada Union at Valley
7:15 p.m. Oct. 17
Last time (2007): The Miners celebrated senior night in style with a 45-21 win over the Vikings at Hooper Stadium. Valley went 2-8 last season, losing each of its final five contests of the campaign. Nevada Union’s owns a 4-0 record in the all-time series.
Directions: Take Business-80 west to Highway 99 south and continue to the Calvine Road/Cosumnes River Boulevard exit. Go west over the freeway and at Center Parkway turn left (south). The school is at the southwest corner of the Center Parkway and Ehrhardt Ave. intersection.
Week 7
Franklin (Elk Grove) at Nevada Union
7:15 p.m. Oct. 24
Last time (2007): The Miners suffered a 21-20 loss to host Franklin in the Delta Valley Conference opener. The game saw the Wildcats rush for 234 yards, while the Miners totaled 220 on the ground. Franklin posted a 6-5 record last season, but went 4-1 in the DVC. Nevada Union is 0-2 against the Wildcats.
Week 8
Nevada Union at Laguna Creek
7:15 p.m. Oct. 31
Last time (2007): The Cardinals had a rough DVC run in ’07, posting a 1-4 league mark while finishing 4-6 overall. Nevada Union squeaked out a 21-20 win over Laguna Creek at Hooper Stadium. Two top returning Cardinals expect to be running back Keenan Williams (1,079 yards and 10 TD) and receiver K.J. Daniels (18catches, 363 yards).
Directions: Laguna Creek plays its home football games at Elk Grove High School. Take Business-80 to Highway 99 south and continue to the Elk Grove Boulevard exit. Turn left at the light and go back over the highway. Turn right on Elk Grove-Florin Road. The school will be on your right (west) side a few blocks south of Elk Grove Boulevard.

Elk Grove at Nevada Union
7:15 p.m. Nov. 7
Last time (2007): Two early NU fumbles were converted into an early 10-0 lead as Elk Grove routed the Miners 39-13. Elk Grove, which went 5-0 for the DVC championship, finished 12-1 on the season. The Herd’s lone loss came to Napa in the section semifinals by a 28-24 score. Jake Rodriguez, who rushed for 695 yards as a sophomore, and Brooke Brooks, who totaled 437 rushing yards and four touchdowns, are both expected to be back with the Thundering Herd.

Nevada Union at Davis
7:15 p.m. Nov. 14
Last time (2007): In one of the most disappointing defeats of the ’07 season, Nevada Union fell short of a win after being turned away on a two-point conversion in a 47-46 thriller. Davis went on to post a 7-4 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the DVC. Tight end Tanner Mohr, who caught 21 passes for 310 yards as a junior, is among the top returning players for the Blue Devils.
Directions: Take I-80 west to the Richards Boulevard exit and go north on E Street. Turn right (east) on 5th Street. Turn left (north) on F Street. Turn left (west) on 14th Street. The school is on the north side of the street at the corner of Oak Avenue.
