70-year-old biker injured in solo wreck on Hwy. 49

A 70-year-old Roseville woman was in fair condition after losing control of her motorcycle at 9:14 a.m. Saturday on Highway 49 at Shoshone Trail.

Marcia Wolfe was riding north with a large touring group from the Sacramento area and headed to Burney Falls in the Mt. Shasta area.

She lost control of her motorcycle on an S-curve and hit the asphalt berm. The bike went down and Wolfe flew off, sliding to a stop a few feet in front of her vehicle.

The Nevada County Consolidated Fire Protection District station No. 84 responded. Wolfe said she was going too fast and lost control, Capt. Mike Stewart said.

California Highway Patrol officials said Wolfe was wearing a full coverage helmet, which was badly scarred on the left side. The full-face helmet protected her from substantial injuries to the head and face, the CHP said.

No alcohol was involved, the CHP added.

Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital ambulance transported Wolfe to the Rood Administrative Center, where a Calstar helicopter transported her to Sutter Roseville Memorial Hospital.

She was in fair condition Sunday evening, hospital spokeswoman Nancy Turner said.

Robert Steuber lives in Grass Valley. Messages for him may be left at tkleist@theunion.com or 477-4230.
