When we started the Save the Foothill Theatre Company campaign only three weeks ago, the $90,000 we needed to mount our next production seemed all but insurmountable. We also recognized that this was truly more than a fundraising campaign, but a public referendum; an opportunity for citizens to vote on whether FTC met a recognized community need.
Well, the vote is in, and the decision was an overwhelming "yes!" Our hearts are overjoyed and filled with gratitude to all of the individuals and organizations who stepped forward to help us in any way that they could.
As of Tuesday, our total donations are $89,300 and we are moving forward with our next production, "On Golden Pond." We have been congratulated on making our goal, but the credit is to due all of the individuals and organizations who made the goal for us.
We especially want to thank The Union for being the first to report the FTC story and for its continuing coverage of the developing situation through news stories, editorials, letters to the editor and "Other Voices" commentaries.
We want to thank the following businesses, organizations and individuals who gave of their time, products, funds and advice: KVMR; KNCO; NCTV; Capital Public Radio; The Nevada Theatre Commission; YubaNet; Banner Mountain Creative; Nevada County Mall; Griffith Graphics; Nevada County Supervisor Nate Beason; Nevada County CEO Rick Haffey; vice mayor of Nevada City, Reinette Senum; vice mayor of Grass Valley, Lisa Swarthout; city manager of Nevada City, Gene Albaugh; Nevada City Council member, David McKay; the Nevada City Finance Committee; community leader, Paul Matson; SPD Markets; Terra Alta Real Estate; Gretchen Bond and the Miners Foundry; Starpeople; Razzmatazz; the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce; the Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce; the City of Nevada City, the City of Grass Valley; Howard Levine (GVDA); CATS; MIM; TCCA; the Center for the Arts; Wooden Spoon; David Kenitzer; Dave Verden; Nevada County Laundry and Linen; Flour Garden; Tess's Kitchen Store; Back Porch Market; Diego's; Sierra Starr Winery, Lucchesi Winery; Nevada City Winery; Cirino's at Main Street; Tofanelli's; The Book Seller; Mary-Mary, Magic Carpet; Wooden Spoon; Bob Crabb; Jodi Gaia Hypnotherapy; Bon Bon Salon; Harmony Books; Las Katarinas; Rhea Glass; Fur Traders; Tanglewood Forest; Pamela Hodges; Camen Hodges and SandBags; and all of you who wrote letters of support, both to us and to The Union.
We also want to give a special thank you to all the individuals who contributed financially whatever they could. It is absolutely true, little bits do add up to big numbers. We will never forget your generosity, concern and vote of confidence.
We would like to publish the time-honored full page ad that names all of the 356 individuals who so generously donated to the Save the Theatre campaign. It is a big expense and we feel that your money is better spent bringing our vendors current and putting on a first-class play. Look for all of your names and a special thank-you in the program for "On Golden Pond."
We now set our sights on the next leg of our journey; the $157,000 needed to secure the rest of our 2008 season and begin anew in 2009. We will be bringing you a variety of fun and interesting fundraisers in the next four months, the first being on Sept. 29 featuring Ernest Thompson, the author of "On Golden Pond." We are also continuing to reach out to the community for financial donations and support.
Our journey is far from over, but our energy has definitely been renewed. Words cannot express how deeply gratified we are that you stepped forward to help us continue. We look forward to seeing you all at the theater.
Karen Marinovich, executive director, W. Lowell Robertson, board of directors president, and Carolyn Howarth, artistic director, are part of the Foothill Theatre Company.
