On the morning of August 29th, 2006, Miriam died quietly and at
peace, surrounded with the love of her friends and family, who so
generously supported and comforted her in a lengthy fight against
esophageal cancer.
Born to Ben and Bernice Schauder, in Dayton Ohio, Miriam moved
to Nevada County in 1960 with her late husband, Bruce Jensen
(USAF) and her children Doug and Laurel, who survive her, as do her
grandchildren Amelia and Ben. Other family members include her
husband, John, her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Jon Winters
and their children and grandchildren.
Residing in Rough and Ready, Penn Valley, Donner Lake and Nevada
City in the intervening years. She will be long remembered for her
contributions to the performing arts; from the writing and directing
the first Secession Days play, directing Music Man and Kiss Me Kate
to raise funds for the Nevada Theatre, contributing her skills to the
Tahoe/Truckee High drama program , to the creation of Madam
Mustaches, the Iron Door and Holiday Cabaret shows.
More importantly she will be remembered for the positive influence
she had in so many lives, and her quiet and generous contributions to
those in need. A small woman with an enormous spirit, she lived her
life as if she were 10 feet tall, as indeed in our hearts, she was!
A memorial gathering and celebration was held at the family home in
Nevada City. In lieu of flowers or contributions, Miriam asked that
people vote Democratic in November.
