A group of prominent local Republicans on Thursday endorsed Alan Kilborn, not Ed Scofield, for the Nevada County Supervisor District 2 race.
The endorsement from Citizens for Responsible Government in Nevada County heats up the competition between Kilborn and Scofield for the seat being vacated by Sue Horne. The election is on November 4.
The Republican group noted it was instrumental in retiring liberal county supervisors Bruce Conklin and Izzy Martin in 2002.
Kilborn, from Lake of the Pines, faces Scofield, from Alta Sierra. Both are conservatives.
Alans background and life experiences have convinced us that he is the one to elect to the Board of Supervisors, said prominent local Republican Kim Janousek.
Added Robert Ingram, also a prominent Republican: CRG conducted interviews with both candidates and both men are in the race for the best of intentions.
"When we weighed each candidates life experiences, education and accomplishments, Alan Kilborn stood out to be what we believe is needed to keep Nevada County at the forefront of sound economic stability and fair government for all," he added.
Horne also has endorsed Kilborn.
The group pointed to Kilborns extensive business experience, helping to build a firm called California Edison Utilities Co. Alan Kilborn will bring to the board 31 years of work in commerce, Janousek said.
Some Republicans have complained that the board of supervisors though conservative needs more members with more private-sector business experience, not just government experience.
Scofield is being endorsed by Jeanette Royal, spouse of the county sheriff, Supervisor Hank Weston, and the Nevada County Farm Bureau, among others. Scofield has been chief executive of the Nevada County Fair for 26 years.
The State of California is divided into 54 District Agricultural Associations. The fairgrounds are operated on behalf of the State.
