Nevada City: Hold your horses, look for new stop signs

This stop sign at Broad and Union streets is one of four new stop signs in downtown Nevada City. Two were installed at Broad and Pine streets, creating a four-way stop there. The fourth is at Pine and Commercial streets. The stop sign in the middle of this street is a temporary one to make sure drivers don't miss the new stop sign at the corner. They were installed this week at very little cost to the city, officials said.

Child pitches fit, dials 911 over room cleaning

When an emergency caller hung up at about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, dispatchers called back to a residence on the 16000 block of Aileen Way, where a woman reported her 8-year-old child was throwing a tantrum over cleaning her room. The dispatcher told the child she should call 911 only for emergencies. For more local

mayhem, see the Police Blotter on Page A2.
