The Certified Growers' Market in Penn Valley is up and running and a great place to pick up those fresh summer vegetables.
Many of the growers farm at higher elevations, so some of their produce was later this year, accounting for fewer vendors early in the season. We should see more vendors when you visit this week.
Every Thursday evening through September, the market is open from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the church parking lot across from the post office.
A special acknowledgment goes to LWW resident Patsy Webster and her "girlfriends." During the height of the recent fires when LWW was shrouded in smoke, Patsy used her "stay indoors" time to bake cookies for the firefighters camped out at the fairgrounds.
Before you knew it, several of her friends joined in, and they had more than 1,000 cookies neatly bagged in individual portions that they delivered to the fairgrounds. Thanks to all of you for your thoughtfulness.

But our LWW Technology Committee loves this stuff, and they have been spending lots of time trying to bring us wireless Internet access in the near future. They are busy interviewing providers.
Lots of cities across the United States are working on or already providing wireless access to entire communities. This team of six is hoping to find a way to get wireless for all residents for less than the current cost of DSL and at a much higher speed. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
There have been a couple of articles in the paper about the Friends of Hospice 26th Annual Breakfast in the Park. With so many Wildwood residents volunteering to help on this program, I can't help but mention it again. Ginger McGee and Mary Moyer, co-chairs for this event, are bringing many organizations and volunteers together to make this a wonderful morning for the entire family.
Hospice of the Foothills is a nonprofit organization that helps terminally ill patients and their families during all phases of loss. They are building the area's first in-house care facility. With building prices escalating across the board, Hospice needs to raise another $2.5 million to complete the facility.
This fundraiser will help. So be sure to come to St. Canice hall in Nevada City on July 27 between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Park at the hall on Reward Street or at Seven Hills School and take the shuttle over.
Besides a complete and tasty breakfast, you can also purchase raffle tickets for themed baskets that will be given away. And it is not too late if your club would like to donate a themed basket for the event. Contact Vickie Daugherty at 432-1215 or Ginger McGee at 432-5446. Breakfast tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children six and under and raffle tickets are $1. All tickets can be purchased at the event.
