Ruth E. Woodbury died July 5 in Seattle, Wash. She was 85.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., Saturday, July 12, at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. A gravesite service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 12, at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Grass Valley.
Ruth was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Loma Linda to James R. and Elizabeth Montigel, and grew up in Yucaipa. While attending the University of Redlands, she met 1st Lt. Charles M. Woodbury, Jr., a B-24 pilot with the Eighth Air Force. They were married on July 28, 1945, and lived in West Covina, where they raised three children. In 1964, they moved to Grass Valley, where they owned and operated the Holiday Liquor store for 20 years before retiring.

Ruth was an avid reader and baseball fan. Her greatest joy came from being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After retiring, she enjoyed playing bridge with friends, and traveling both abroad and in the U.S. with her husband in their motorhome. In February 2008, after the death of her husband, she moved from Grass Valley to Edmonds, Wash., to live with her older son Charles and daughter Judi.
She is survived by her children, Charles of Edmonds, Wash., Judi of Lynnwood, Wash., and Ross of Grass Valley; grandchildren Dawna, Christina and Emily, and five great-grandchildren.
