The future bride is the daughter of Clete and Tresa Coursen of Kearney, Mo., and James and Susan Saffels of Overland Park, Kan.
She is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor's degree in photo journalism. She is a manager at The Novel Cafe in Santa Monica and a missionary for Great Commission Ministries in Los Angeles.

The future groom is the son of Kerry and Karen Slattery of Nevada City.
He is a 1999 graduate of Nevada Union High School. He attended Cabrillo College and went on to get his state contractor's license. He is a supervisor for Arctic Roofing, an eco-friendly company based in Grass Valley.

The couple will marry Aug. 2 in Santa Monica. A reception following their marriage will be held Aug. 9 in Grass Valley.
After returning from a honeymoon cruise in the Mediterranean, the couple will reside in Santa Monica.
