Aanestad pushes for cyber command

A bill by state Sen. Sam Aanestad, R-Grass Valley, carries the hope of those working to bring the U.S. Air Force Cyber Command center to Beale AFB in Yuba County, about 20 miles west of Grass Valley.

The Assembly Committee on Veterans Affairs unanimously approved the bill earlier this week. The bill is on the Assembly floor and could come up for a vote as early as Monday, Aanestad's office said Friday.

The bill declared Beale to be the best and only choice to host the Cyber Command, stresses the size of the base and the ability to expand to take on new responsibilities.

The command would oversee cyber and electronic warfare. Supporters favor bringing hundreds of Air Force personnel to the region and say it would create thousands of private sector jobs.
