Second-round action in the Sac-Joaquin Section baseball playoffs continues tonight with opening matchups of best-of-three games semifinal series.
Down at the Division IV playoffs at Dan McAuliffe Memorial Park in Sacramento, Pioneer Valley League champion Bear River (17-8) will open action against Valley Oak League runner-up East Union (13-11) in a noon contest.
The Bruins advanced to the semifinals with a 5-2 win over Manteca (15-12-1) on Wednesday, while East Union topped Center (17-12) by a 9-1 count.
Bear River will meet the Lancers again in game two at 4 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a deciding third game at 7 p.m. (if necessary).
Squaring off for the other Division IV finals berth will be Placer (16-7) and defending champion Oakdale (22-3-3), which defeated Bear River in last year's title game.
Division VI
Forest Lake Christian fell short of a playoff opening win in Division VI action at Tony Zupo Field in Lodi Thursday, as Golden Sierra scored a 12-6 win.
The Falcons close their season - just their second since the program returned after missing 2006 campaign - with a 10-5 record and a second-place finish in the Central Valley Christian League.
Golden Sierra (18-9) advanced to second-round series against Mariposa (22-6) for a spot in the Division VI championship game.
