Nevada City



n Council, clerk

candidates to debate today



The four candidates for the Nevada City Council and two candidates for city clerk will debate each other Thursday at Nevada City Hall, 317 Broad St. Gene Downing, David McKay Reinette Senum and Robert Bergman are the four candidates for three council seats. Their debate is 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. City clerk candidates Steve Cottrell and Niel Locke will debate from 8:25 to 9 p.m. They are vying for election on June 3. The debate is sponsored by the League of Women Voters.



Grass Valley

n Furniture auction

to benefit hospice



Hospice of the Foothills will benefit from an auction this week of items donated by Dovetail Design, a furniture store in Grass Valley. The furniture store is donating a number of items that were left over after a recent liquidation sale. A preview will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at 115 Mill St. The auction starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at the same location. An on-site hospice facility is under construction near Grass Valley.



n BriarPatch Co-op

election to close today



BriarPatch Co-op owner members have until 8 p.m. today to cast their vote for new directors.

In the most contested race in the natural food store's history, 15 candidates are vying for five open seats.

Northern California



n Red flag fire warning

issued for region

For the third day in a row, officials hiked their warnings of fire danger: The National Weather Service in Sacramento declared a red flag fire warning in effect today through noon Friday for much of Northern California.

A wind advisory also is in place until midnight tonight.
