Singing in the shower or dancing in the garage might do it for some performers, but others want to be on stage. Few get to be on "American Idol" or "Dancing with the Stars," so what's an artist in Nevada County to do?

Options exist, but one of them - Friday Night Showcase - is a chance to do a 20-minute set and try out new material or a new routine.

The showcase this Friday, 8 p.m., at Center for the Arts in Grass Valley will feature a wide spectrum of material from show-tunes to rock and gospel and the dancing talents of two local groups. Performances are by Beth Jayne, Denise Dennis, Jamal Walker, Tami Cooke, Noreen Barnett, Nicole Solarez, Mark Vieaux, Wayne Powers, AirAligned and Salsa Sierra.

Tickets are available through the Center's box office, (530) 274-8384, ext. 14; at BriarPatch Community Market; or online at www.thecenterforthearts; also at the door, if available. E-mail info@thecenterforthearts.org for more information.
