Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS) is busy this summer into fall putting on a series of classes and trips that not only raises money for their next play but also focuses on the cultural aspect of its mission. CATS Can Cook (two classes, one on June 1, featuring Taiwanese cuisine and another of Thai food on June 29) and CATS Goes to the Opera (to see the world premiere of Amy Tan's best-selling novel, "The Bonesetter's Daughter") in the fall are two intriguing offerings.
But there is more, including a one-time play and classes in making Asian teapots and gift cards. Sept. 7 is the annual picnic, which is a lot of fun.
CATS follows a tradition of producing a play in the first quarter of the year. This year it was "Golden Child" by David Henry Hwang. The new one, for early 2009, will be announced in the next couple of months, says the group's executive director, Jeannie Wood.
For the lineup of summer and fall classes and events, go online at
www.catsweb.org from which registration forms can be downloaded. All registrations for the summer to fall events will be confirmed with specific details, including addresses and venues where necessary.
