Vets building rededicated
After being remodeled, the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building will be rededicated at a ceremony and celebration from 2 p.m. to 5 p .m. Saturday.
The County of Nevada and the Nevada County Consolidated Veterans Council is hosting the free event with food, cake and dancing. Supervisors Ted Owens, Sue Horne and Hank Weston will participate.
The Grass Valley Male Vocal Choir will sing patriotic songs, and the Foothill Swing Dancers and the Razz Matazz Dancers will dance to big band music played by the Nevada Union High School Jazz Band.
A gold mine of paper ephemera
More than 50 dealers in old, rare and out-of-print books, maps and photos will gather for the Gold Rush book Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Main Street building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.
Michael Good, of Woodacre, Calif., will be the honored guest.

Chips, tests and dog obedience
A Responsible Dog Owners Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Nevada County Fairgrounds arena, just outside Grass Valley.
The free event is open to owners of all dogs. Obedience, agility and grooming demonstrations will be held. Dogs can get a heartworm test for $15, registered for $15 and receive a microchip for $20.
Early registration on Saturday is required for the $15 "Canine Good Citizen Test," a 10-item, noncompetitive test.
The event is being held by Gold Country Kennel Club, with proceeds going to AnimalSave. For more information, call Nancy Bynes at 265-0525.
