Oak management plan on hold

Print Comment
A civil grand jury recommendation that Nevada County apply for state grant funds to manage oak woodlands has been rejected for now by the board of supervisors.

Instead, county staff will review existing county regulations to see if plans for oak woodlands management here already exists, supervisors said in a response to the February grand jury report.

If no plan exists, the county would proceed with such a plan and apply for the grant funds to develop it, supervisors said.

The grand jury report was prompted by a written complaint alleging the county was not complying with the state's Oak Woodlands Conservation Act. It is not mandatory for counties to provide the state with an oak management plan, but they must have one to apply for state money to implement it.
