The Grass Valley City Council unanimously approved a resolution late Tuesday that directs city staff to prepare a resolution opposing the land-use initiative.
The vote came after a several opponents of the so-called managed growth initiative testified. No one spoke in favor of the initiative, which could be on the Nov. 3 ballot.
If approved by voters, the measure would require a public vote when certain changes are requested of the land-use element of the 2020 General Plan. It would also extend the life of the current land-use plan by 20 years to 2038.
The measure’s proponents have submitted petitions with 874 signatures to the county election’s office, which has 30 working days to verify the signatures. It will take 625 verified signatures for the measure to qualify for the ballot.
Mayor Mark Johnson said today the City Council will likely vote on the resolution at its next regularly meeting on May 27.
