Margaret Stevens Steger

Margaret Stevens Steger died May 11 at Spring Hill Manor in Grass Valley. She was 88.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 15, at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. Burial will be held at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Steger was born in Igo to Pauline and Charles Stevens. They moved to Nevada City in 1932. She graduated from Nevada City High School and from Saint Mary's Academy, where she majored in business. She was an avid tennis player, becoming California state champion in high school.

Mrs. Steger was an accomplished gardener, winning many awards for her dahlias and floral arrangements at the Nevada County Fair. Upon retirement, she and her husband of 67 years, Raymond "Sonny" Steger, traveled extensively with friends and cultivated their beautiful garden in Nevada City.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends as a person who was kind and loving, keeping a sense of humor until the end.

Mrs. Steger is survived by her husband, Raymond "Sonny" Steger; cousins Bell Plum Fickle, Lynn Rimer Lorenson and Lenore Rimer Stephens; sisters-in-law Betty Stevens and Vera Steger; nephews Richard Jr., Larry and John Stevens, Bob Oates, Don Steger, John Steger, George Steger and Bob Steger; nieces Ann Pugh, Mary Lou Bryant, Emily Veteto and Diane Thomas; great-nephews and nieces and special friends, Will and Cindy Trant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Charles Stevens; brother, Richard "Dick" Stevens, and niece, Betty Paul.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
