Aikido'Ka to publish the New Family Post
Aikido'Ka, a martial arts training school in Grass Valley, will begin publishing the New Family Post this month.
The publication was formerly known as The Family Post, which has been published for the past 12 years by Sierra Nevada Children's Services. Its last edition went to press this month.
Aikido'Ka will publish its first edition of The New Family Post later this month.According to a press release, the magazine will focus on parenting and family services available in Nevada County.
In addition, it will hold reader contests for children, provide information on cooking, and feature a column written by young people that focuses on making a difference in our communities.

Interior designer to write for The Union
Barbara Wirth, who has 34 years of experience as an interior designer, will start writing a column in The Union's Home and Garden section.
The column, called the Design Guru, will focus on residential design. It is expected to debut this Saturday.
Wirth moved to Nevada County three years ago from Southern California. She is originally from the Midwest.
Nevada City gallery still has local plans
Even though Julie Baker Fine Art is closing its downtown Nevada City gallery on May 31 to start a new business in New York City, the owner wants residents to know she will still present shows in the area.
Even though Garson Baker Fine Art will be a primary focus, Baker said she will continue to offer contemporary art and design to the West Coast and local community.
"I have a lot of clients who use my Web site as a tool to acquire art, and I will continue to operate the gallery with virtual exhibitions. I also plan to hold two to three events per year in Nevada County with jewelry, art and music. So although the downtown space will be closed, the gallery lives on," she said.
The first event will be "A Summer Salon" held in August at a location to be determined. It will feature new paintings by Santa Fe artist Alexandra Eldridge.
The gallery will hold a "closing opening" on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. which will feature paintings of San Francisco by David Leonard and interior architecture paintings by Dalton Jamieson.
