Spirit gets donations, purchase option lapsing

Print Comment
Recent donations of $1,500 to help buy the Spirit Peer Empowerment Center in Grass Valley will not be enough to meet a purchase option that expires Thursday for the mental health drop-in facility.

Spirit founder Lily Marie said the center will not give up however, and is trying to renegotiate the lease to stay in its Brunswick Basin location.

The Nevada County Behavioral Health Department recently announced it would continue funding the center, but could not use Mental Health Services Act money to purchase the center and the five acres it sits on. The price tag is about $900,000.
