Nevada Union's swimming team smashed some of its own school records in a strong showing at the Sac-Joaquin Section finals in Lodi at Tokay high school.
The boys varsity team finished fifth in the finals, totaling 155 points - the highest Nevada Union has ever gotten in the section finals, coach John Sultan said.
Sierra Foothill League rival Granite Bay finished in third place while Jesuit high school, Carmichael, finished in first place.
The boys team finished second in the 200 -meter medley relay, breaking a school record with a 1:38.12 time. The time - honed in by Zach Humphries, Nicholas Ingersoll, Mike Saturnino and Elic Golnik - was also an all-american time, Sultan said.
Humphries also finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (53.36) while Ingersoll finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke (59.93) and Saturnino finished eighth in the 100 butterfly (54.10).
The team took sixth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.95) and sixth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:20.32).
Haley Porter, the team's lone varsity girl participant in the finals, finished fourth in the 100 freestyle (52.66) and ninth in the 50 freestyle (24.60).
For the frosh-soph boys, Trey Herbert took third in the 50 freestyle in 22.68 for a new frosh-soph school record. He also took ninth in the 100 freestyle in 57.12.
Joey Thompson took fifth in the 200 individual medley in 2:07.48 and eighth in the 100 butterfly (57.24).
The frosh-soph boys finished in 11th with 80.5 points while the girls team frosh-soph girls team finished eighth with 90.5 points. Girls varsity finished 15th with 44 points.
