Alumni Notebook: Campora racks up diving awards

Here's a look at how some athletes with local ties fared recently at the college level:

Swimming

Nikka Campora (Forest Lake Christian, '06); Sierra College - Campora was named the California Community College Athletic Association's player of the month for March after she won the Co-State Diver of the Year award for her performance in the state championships.

Campora took top honors in 3-meter diving, scoring a 263.05 in the event.

Because of her success, she won All-American honors for the Wolverines as her coach, Grass Valley Resident Rowland King, was named COA women's diving coach of the year.

Baseball

Nic Gauldin (Nevada Union, '06); Yuba Community College - Gauldin was named to the Bay Valley All-Conference second team honors in the final week of the season his 49ers finished the year 20-23 and 14-14 in the BVC.

Gauldin added an RBI single to help his team to a 9-3 win in the season finale over Napa Valley.

Jason Roenicke (Nevada Union, '04); University of California, Santa Barbara - Roenicke pitched a full inning on Saturday against Long Beach State, striking out one batter while allowing one hit and one walk en route to a UCSB win, 1-0.

Josh Roenicke (Nevada Union, '01); Chatanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds) - In the last week, Roenicke has recorded two saves and a loss in four appearances as a relief pitcher.

He struck out two batters en route to his sixth save of the season against the Tennessee Smokies. He followed with a one-hit performance against the Smokies and then struck out one batter against the Carolina Mudcats while picking up his seventh save of the season.

Roenicke gave up one run, in only his second loss of the season, to the Mudcats the next day.

He's 4-2 on the year with 3.86 ERA and seven saves for the Double-A Southern League.

Track &amp; Field

Chelsea Haverty (Bear River, '04); University of Colorado - Haverty took third place in the 200-meter dash (25.18) and helped her relay team to a second place finish (47.83) in the 4x100 at the Front Range Classic.

She also placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.89 seconds.

Jessica Lorson (Nevada Union, '03); University of California, Davis - Lorson raced to a fifth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at the Aggie Twilight Saturday in 1:02.85 seconds.

Steven Conrad (Nevada Union, '04); University of California, Berkeley - Conrad was apart of the top college team at the California Invitational Relays at Modesto Junior College to finish the 4x100-meter relay.

His team took fourth place in 41.40 seconds.

The next closet college was Fresno State, which finished in sixth place with a time of 41.84.

Paul Litchfield (Bear River, '99); Pocatello Track Club - The Idaho State alumnus took first in the pole vault at the Bronco Twilight May 2.

He tipped the competition with a 5.20 meter vault in the finals.
