Support needed for changes in disability law

Print Comment
Recent articles in The Union have described the closing of the Broad Street Furniture Store as well as other Grass Valley and Nevada City businesses.

The reason given is the lack of customers, but the lack of customers is caused by the high overhead which these businesses are enduring, thus causing high sales prices.

Assemblyman Rick Keene states that California businesses have spent an estimated $34 million defending themselves against alleged violation of the Americans with Disability Act.

Keene has proposed House Bill AB 2533, which will modify the Disability Act to allow the effected businesses time to remedy any alleged violations prior to having to hire attorneys and defend themselves.

Anyone in business should review this legislation and if they are in accordance, should contact their lawmakers to support Assemblyman Keene's bill.
