I was disappointed to hear the KNCO news program on May 6 regarding the lady "charged" with supplying alcohol to the Bear River girls basketball and that the report was connected to the widespread alcohol problem among high school students in our county.
My heart goes out to the suffering of this upstanding mom after having been on the front page of The Union and dealing with the implication of guilt again by KNCO.
Let me remind us all that a person in our country is innocent until proven guilty. Lately, people of all ages are being charged with crimes they didn't commit before a thorough investigation is completed, as in this case.
Perhaps it is a money factor. Perhaps it is that we are unwilling to look at our own dishonesty and need a quick scapegoat. Whatever the reason, this is not going to solve the greater alcohol-abuse problem among our teens. They can always find a source.
Let's work together to find out the root cause of this destructive form of self-medication and bring innovative solutions to the schools to help our families. We all need to accept responsibility (primarily the students who chose to do this) and get into solutions.
