Rosemarie "Rosemary" Paulson Joe of Auburn died May 5. She was 79.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 17, at St. Teresa d'Avilla Catholic Church in Auburn. A reception will follow at the Higgins-Lions Community Center in Grass Valley.

Mrs. Joe was born March 21, 1929, and grew up in the Portland/Seattle area. She enjoyed her role as a military wife, raising three children, traveling the world, making new friends and being active in the community wherever she lived.

She lived in Auburn since the early 1990's. She was a member of the Bear River Lioness Club, Higgins Fire Department Auxiliary, and South Nevada County Chamber of Commerce. She brought energy and enthusiasm to all of her endeavors, and will be remembered by all who knew her.

Mrs. Joe is survived by her children Catherine Thornburg of Nashville, Tenn., Cynthia Scaringe of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Camille Valvo of Gray's Pt., Australia; and grandchildren David, Jennifer and Michael Scaringe and Jacqueline Valvo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cmdr. L. Palmer Joe (USN-Ret.), and parents, Rudolph and Doris Paulson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice, 11795 Education Street, Suite 224, Auburn, CA 95602.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
