A slew of western Nevada County drivers were among the fast field in last week's main event at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, with Grass Valley's Billy Wallace leading the locals with a second place finish in the Wingless Sprints - two spots ahead of Browns Valley's Mason Myers.
Wallace and Myers also dueled in their heat race prior to the feature, finishing first and second, respectively. Grass Valley's Ashton Love took sixth place in his heat race, before crossing the feature's finish line in 12th place. Taylor Simas of Orland took the checkered flag.
But while Wallace won both shootouts with Myers last Friday night, it's Myers who holds the edge in the season standings. Keith Bloom of Anderson holds the top spot, while Myers currently holds third place and Wallace stands 10th. Cody Myers, Mason's brother and the fifth place driver in the series, took fifth place in his heat race.
Two other Grass Valley drivers took the track in Chico last Friday. In the 410 Sprints, both Jeremy Burt and Mark Hall finished third in their heat races, but the going got tougher in the feature as Burt was 17th and Hall 19th.
Marysville Raceway Park
Twenty four hours after his run in Chico, Burt was back on the track Saturday at Marysville Raceway Park. He again had good luck early in the evening, winning his heat race of the 360 Pacific Sprints. But the 2007 MRP Track Champion - and current third-place driver in the '08 season standings - finished 11th in the main event.
Grass Valley's Brett Youngman had a big night at MRP Saturday in the Wingless Sprints, taking second place in the main event. Youngman, who started on the pole for the 24-car feature race, currently stands in third place on the season, behind Sacramento's John Anderson and Marysville's Jeremy Hawes.
American Valley Speedway
Grass Valley had two drivers running at American Valley Speedway in Saturday night's stop of the Golden State Challenge-King of California Series.
Mark Hall won his heat race before finishing 13th in the 21-car 410 Sprints feature, while Pat Harvey Jr. took 17th place, after a sixth place finish in his heat race.
Chico's Jonathan Allard took the checkered flag.
Placerville Speedway
After a third-place finish in his heat race, Colfax's Colby Wiesz was 14th in the 360 Sprints feature Saturday at Placerville, in the California Sprint Car Civil War Series.
Wiesz, stands 22nd in drivers' points, while David Robinson Jr. of Foresthill leads the series and took first place in Saturday's main event.
