Forest Lake Christian's sophomore doubles duo of Caitlin Hanson and Jen Menary made some noise with the cream of the Sac-Joaquin Section tennis crop Thursday at Oak Park in Stockton.
The Golden Empire League champions scored a straight sets win over Somerville's top doubles squad (6-3, 6-2) in the first round, before falling short of a win over Central Catholic (Modesto) in the quarterfinals.
Hanson and Menary dropped the first set 6-2, but battled back in number two for a 6-3 win to force a third set. The Falcons ran out to a 5-1 lead in the deciding set, but Central Catholic came back for a 7-5 win.
"They were playing absolutely fantastic," said FLC coach Steve Robinson. "But the Central Catholic girls did pick it up and got something started. And once they got something started, they didn't stop.
"It was a great experience for our young team. They're both just sophomores. I'm really proud of those two. They fought like crazy."

The Miners beat Del Oro in the team's last match of the season - 25-6, 25-16, 28-6 - while breaking a couple of milestones along the way.
"We had a little fun with that last game," NU coach Marco Salcedo said. "I had all the guys in that game playing in every position."
Justin Carroll notched eight kills on the night, surpassing the 300-kill mark on his fifth one, a goal he set in the beginning of the season, Salcedo said.
Austin Schumacher had 10 kills in the gmae and Nick Cancilla added nine kills.
Tyler Salcedo recorded 24 assists for NU and three aces. The younger Salcedo had eclipsed the 1,000 assist mark three games ago, Marco Salcedo said.
NU finishes the year 42-7 overall and 17-1 in the Sierra Foothill League.
