Peaceful Valley to host plant sale and party
Peaceful Valley Farm and Garden Supply will hold a grand opening party and plant sale to promote its new on-site nursery today and Saturday. A barbecue and live music will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Marney Blair, the owner of Fulcrum Farms, will give a class on composting from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The nursery features "foothill friendly," drought-tolerant and native plants and those that attract beneficial insects.
Man arrested after police hear shots fired
Grass Valley police arrested a man Thursday after neighbors reported hearing two shots fired, police said. The report came at about 4:30 p.m. on Brighton near French Street, where police found a man alone in a residence, police Sgt. Jason Perry said. The man was expected to be booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility later Thursday. The man had sustained injuries prior to the arrest, Perry said. It is illegal to discharge a firearm in the city limits, he added.
Nevada County
Area roads get a treatment of slick stuff
Nevada County's Road Maintenance Division will be dust oiling on various county roads May 15. Weather permitting, the oiling will occur on Tom Ray Wolf, Alpha Toll, Maybert, Banner Mountain Trails, Cooper, Blue Tent School and Rock Creek roads. Signs will be posted saying "Fresh Oil," and a speed limit of 5 mph will be in force.
