A memorial for Daniel Arthur Durgin, a 1993 Nevada Union High graduate who died in a motorcycle accident in Marysville on April 27, will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building.
Durgin enlisted in the Navy in June 1994 and trained at the Naval Hospital Corpsman School while on active duty. He also served with the 4th Marine Air Wing.
The memorial will include a Gold Star Banner presentation by the Blue Star Mothers.
Later, in a burial ceremony at the Rough & Ready Cemetery, rifle volleys, taps and a flight fly over will occur.
"Your are the most giving, good natured and kind person I have ever met," writes Sierra Knapp, who was to marry Durgin later this month, in a memorial tribute. "You make the world a better place and inspire me to be a better person."
