She and her older brother, Harold, lived with their grandmother, Anna Slay, in Omaha, Neb. She graduated from high school in 1933 and joined the U.S. Navy. She became a Chief Yeoman at the age of 26. She met another Navy Chief, William "Bill" Peard, and they married on June 9, 1951. They did not have any children of their own, but Bill had two daughters from a previous marriage. They also raised one of their grandsons.
Upon her retirement from the Navy, Peard purchased "Grand Auto," an auto parts store in Yuba City. She eventually sold it and it is now "Super Auto."
Mrs. Peard and her husband loved to travel and visited many countries all over the world. Her hobby of collecting jewelry fit well with her love of travel. She purchased at least one piece of jewelry from each country she visited.
