ACK SCHAMBERGER
Jack Byron Schamberger of Woodland died April 25 at Woodland Memorial Hospital. He was 86.
A private service was held May 2 in Woodland.
Mr. Schamberger was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Woodland. He graduated from Grass Valley High School in 1940 and from UC Davis with an associate degree in dairy science in 1942. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marines upon graduation from Officer Candidate School. He was a Marine fighter pilot in the Pacific during World War II and retired as a major in the Marine Corps Reserve.
Mr. Schamberger owned and operated the Brownie Drive In from 1950 to 1955 and then became an accountant and owner of Byron Martin Accounting Firm in Woodland. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Ben Ali Shriners, Gand Encampment of Knights Templar, The American Legion and the Marines Memorial Association.
Mr. Schamberger is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy A. Schamberger of Woodland; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Young of Woodland; granddaughter, Taylor Young of Woodland; sister, Mary Ann Schamberger of Sacramento, and many nieces and nephews, including Jeff and Kim Jackson of Grass Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Juanita Schamberger and brother, Richard R. Schamberger.
