Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared this week Wildfire Awareness Week, a good time to learn how to defend your home from a blaze, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

In-home services

conference May 14



A conference for in-home services in Nevada and Sierra counties will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 14 at the Nevada City Elks Lodge, 510 Highway 49.

Workshops on disaster preparedness and using humor to enrich your life will be included at the conference put on by the Nevada-Sierra In Home Supportive Services Public Authority. The featured speaker will be Tony Sauer, director of the California Department of Rehabilitation.
