SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Former South Dakota Senator and 1972 Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern says it's virtually impossible for Hillary Rodham Clinton to win the nomination.

McGovern is shifting his support from Clinton to Barack Obama, a day before she is to campaign in South Dakota.

He says Clinton "has run a valiant campaign" but that Obama has the nomination "by any practical test."

He's urging Clinton to drop out soon so Democrats "can concentrate on a unified party capable of winning the White House next November."
