MARY HILLERMAN

12:01 a.m. PT May 7, 2008

Mary Victoria Hillerman died May 3 surrounded by her beloved husband and children at her home in Grass Valley. She was 87.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, May 9 at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Friday, May 9 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 10 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Hillerman was born June 11, 1920, in Detroit. She moved to Los Angeles in 1946 and met her husband, Fred E. Hillerman, in 1948. They were married on Oct. 23, 1948, and raised their family in Granada Hills. They moved to Grass Valley in 1976.

Mrs. Hillerman was an avid reader and loved operas and old movies. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She was a devout Catholic. Her faith in God and the Blessed Virgin Mary sustained her throughout life. She often lightheartedly stated that her lot in life was to pray for everyone.


Mrs. Hillerman is survived by her husband, Fred E. Hillerman; daughters and sons-in-law Christina and Lanny Netz of Grass Valley, Stephanie and Ron Coleman of Grass Valley, Marya and Frank Hooper of Nevada City, and Anne and Frank Ortiz of Grass Valley; sons and daughters-in-law Eric and Allison Hillerman of Yorktown, Va., Tony and Connie Hillerman of Yakima, Wash., and Joe and Leslie Hillerman of Fernley, Nev.; daughter, Lisa Hillerman of Nevada City; grandchildren Joshua and Todd Coleman, Roger and Lydia Hooper, Alfred Netz, Erik and Heather Ortiz and Sara Hillerman, and great-granddaughters Audrey and Ava.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Kechis and Stephania (Obishila) Kechis, and sister and brothers Martha, Joe and Albert.


Memorial donations may be made to Loaves & Fishes of Sacramento, Nevada County Food Bank, Hospice of the Foothills or a charity of the donors choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
