THOMAS BRYAN

Thomas Whitney Bryan died April 29 at the Red Bluff Healthcare Center where he was recuperating from a recent heart problem. He was 80.

In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. Friends and family are asked to remember him and keep him alive in their hearts.

Mr. Bryan was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Florence, Colo., to Hugo Earl and Dorothy Bryan. His mother and grandmother brought the family to California when he was 9. He graduated from Grass Valley High School in 1945 and spent the majority of his life in the Grass Valley area. He served in the U.S. Navy V6 program for 11 months, eight of those in Guam. He received a bachelor of arts in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento in 1981.

Mr. Bryan worked for the Nevada County Sheriffs Department. He started as a dispatcher and worked his way up the ranks, retiring as jail captain. He was a member of the Grass Valley Gold Country Lion's Club and held many club and region positions.

Mr. Bryan is survived by his wife, Mary; sons and daughters-in-law Keith and Barbara of Adin and Michael and Cyndi of Grass Valley; two grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Bryan Petrojetti of Gardnerville, Nev.; half-sister, Patricia Willard of Carson City, Nev.; half-brothers Donald and Dennis Atchison of Wellington, Nev., and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Save the Redwoods League, P.O. Box 44614, San Francisco, CA 94144, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
