DEAN DILLINGHAM

Dean Alden Dillingham died May 1 at his home in Alta Sierra after a courageous eight year battle with cancer. He was 81.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Antioch. Pastor Linda Vogelgesang will officiate.

Mr. Dillingham was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Grass Valley. He was a 50- year resident of Salinas. He graduated from Salinas Union High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Salinas Junior College (Hartnell) in 1948 and from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy in 1951, where he was a member of the 1949 NCAA National Championship Track Team and the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.


Mr. Dillingham spent his entire pharmaceutical career in Salinas. His last position before retiring was with Star Care Pharmacy. He was very active in officiating and volunteering in competitive swimming, from the local to the national level. His love of the sport of swimming and the people involved in it will be remembered by all. He was a member of the Nevada City Elks Club and the Empire Mine.

Mr. Dillingham is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacquie; sister, Lorraine Shankland of Nevada City; son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Susan Dillingham; daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Michael Coffman; grandchildren Erik, Jennifer, Christopher, Caroline, Taylor and Tori; granddaughter and husband, Stacey and Jeffrey Lovelace; great-grandson Timothy; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Memorial donations may be made to the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
