Sylvester Junior Eldredge died May 3 in Grass Valley. He was 86.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nevada City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mr. Eldredge was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Delco, Idaho, to Samuel Sylvester Eldredge and Leone Savage Eldredge. He received his associate's degree at Latter Day Saints Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the Navy reserve, electricians mate 2nd class, from 1953 to 1957. He married Eva Egbert on Oct. 24, 1941, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Salt Lake City Temple.
Mr. Eldredge worked as a sales manager for Producers Life Insurance for 53 years and as an electrician for four years. He owned and operated Idaho Seed and Produce for 16 years. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He enjoyed researching family genealogy and was a horticulturist at heart and a florist.
Mr. Eldredge is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Beverly Eldredge of Sarasota, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl E. and Joseph Gale of Sandy, Utah, Janeen and George Brakey of Penn Valley, Karen R. and Daryl Cobabe of Folsom, Lydia A. and Michael Anderson of Citrus Heights, and Michelle L. and Ronald Blackburn of Cameron Park; daughter, Kathy Scheid of West Valley, Utah; 44 grandchildren; 89 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law Leila L. and Marvin Thompson of Murray, Utah, Violet A. and Alfred McClain of Provo, Utah, Twila J. and Ray Williams of Pocatello, Idaho, and Barbara J. and Jack Kniffen of Midvale, Utah; brother and sister-in-law, Edward E. and Gail Eldredge of Salt Lake City, Utah, and sister, Carol Jane Stone of Pocatello, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Egbert Eldredge; brothers William G. Eldredge, Leo S. Eldredge, Samuel J. Eldredge, Gerald Eldredge, Robert Eldredge, Norman C. Eldredge and Allan A. Eldredge; sister Rusella Eldredge and parents Samuel and Leone Eldredge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nevada City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
