In a day full of personal bests and great competition, Chase Dixon stole the spotlight for the Nevada Union Miners, racing to a new school record in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter hurdles at the Nevada Union Invitational.

Dixon bested former Miner turned Cal sprinter Steven Conrad's old time of 14.57 seconds in the 110 hurdles by two one hundredths of a second (14.55). He also took second in the 100-meter dash breaking the 10-second mark (10.97) and caught an opposing team's leg in the 4x400 relay to help the Miners claim victory there too.

"He caught a guy who was (between) 40, 60 meters ahead of him and won by 10 meters," NU coach Jim Worthy said.

The relay team - Phillip Jackson, Cole Stanford, Kemp Stanford and Dixon - took first place with a time of 3:31.35.

Cole Stanford took first in the triple jump with a personal best of 44 feet, 7 inches.

Nick Souza threw a personal best of 111 feet, 3 inches in the boys varsity discus. Amber Kitredge also threw a personal best in the girls varsity discus, tossing it 71 feet.

Josh Cole, a captain with the track and field team and senior, threw a personal best and yearlong goal of 120 feet. Cole had been aiming for the feat for four years, Worthy said.

Cole Stanford grabbed third in the men's shot put, throwing 47 feet and 2 inches. Devin Rowe placed fifth in the same event (43 feet, 7 inches) while Nick Souza placed seventh (41 feet, 9 inches) and Cole finished 10th (38 feet).

Karen Hamann, an exchange student from Germany, long jumped 15 feet, 8 inches to take fourth place. She scratched a 16-foot jump that would've given her second place.

Kemp Stanford took eighth place in the long jump, hopping 18 feet, 4 inches.

Brock Krause ran to a fourth place finish in the junior varsity 400-meter dash (55.34) while Jacob Krishian took fourth in the 800 (2:06.48). It was two seconds faster than his previous personal best.

Krause, Krishian, Sam Whittingslow and Dominic Onak ran to a third place finish in the junior varsity 1600-meter relay, crossing the finish line in 3:42.31.

Conor Scott took fourth in the boys junior varsity discus (110 feet, 7 inches).

Freshman Calynn Stanford threw 95 feet, 10 inches to win the girls junior varsity discus.

Alex Souza and Lacey Dunham took fourth and fifth in the girls high jump, leaping 4 feet, 2 inches.

The Miners turn their attention to Sierra Foothill League trials on Wednesday with finals occurring on Friday.
