5 questions with Samantha Stockton, Forest Lake Christian golfer

12:01 a.m. PT May 4, 2008

Samantha Stockton has golfing in her blood. Her sister, Christina Stockton, was a big-time golfer for the Falcons, before teeing off for the University of San Francisco Dons. As time is showing, Samantha's doing her big sister proud, leading FLC in tournaments and events throughout the spring season. She's also the only girl on the Falcons' golf team. The Union's Sports Writer Zuri Berry caught up with Stockton to ask five questions.

What inspired you to get into golf?

My parents did when I was younger. Basically it's a family sport. I started when I was younger and (my sister) started when she was younger.

Why is it that you play with the boys team?

Because Forest Lake is only a co-ed team. There's not enough girls (for our own team).

What's it like being the lead golfer, and often medalist, at Central Valley Christian League tournaments?

It's fun. (Laughing). It's good competition. (Snickering). It's good.

Now that the season has come to an end for the Falcons' golf team, how do you think the team will improve next year?

Probably by getting closer (to one another). Some of our guys had basketball for half the year, so they missed out. But probably next year we'll get better by getting closer.

What's next for you, after this season? Any summer plans?

Yeah, I'm playing in some tournaments. Some will be national, so that's real big. Also some local tournaments in the Sacramento area.

— Zuri Berry, Sports Writer
