Bear River High's Grad Night 2008 planning underway

Annually, a group of parent volunteers at Bear River High School organize an all night "safe and sober" graduation party for graduating seniors. Plans are currently underway for Bear River Grad Night 2008 that will provide BRHS seniors a chance to celebrate their success in a safe and fun environment.

Activities include an all night live DJ, Live Performance- "Star in your own video," hypnotist, casino tables, climbing wall, dance lessons, ping pong tournament, masseuse, airbrush tattoo parlor, inflatable activities and much more! Food is also donated and provided to the graduates throughout the night.

Graduates in attendance have multiple chances to win prizes and gift certificates - all donated by local businesses and individuals. Past year's giveaways have included a laptop computer, digital cameras, iPods, snowboards, electronics, and cash.

Our incredible decorations committee transforms the multi-purpose room and surrounding areas into a theme-park like setting. In addition, more than 150 parent volunteers will step up to help run activity stations throughout the night. Grad Night is truly an incredible event to witness!

Putting together an event that all seniors can afford to attend involves much careful planning and a lot of fundraising.

If one alcohol-related injury, or something even worse, is prevented by this alcohol-free event, then the efforts of everyone, the volunteers and the local businesses that support us each and every year, is well worth it.

Many of our local businesses, law enforcement agencies, civic organizations and individuals step up to support Bear River Grad Night and we are very appreciative to all of these folks and their generous contributions. In fact, without their support, we could not organize such a worthwhile event. One hundred percent of all funds raised are put back into the Grad Night event.

There are multiple ways for everyone to support this worthwhile event, including:

• Contributing cash or merchandise for Grad Night by contacting Liz Rhodes at erhodes@secctv.org or 268-1625.

• Volunteering on committees to help with decorations, set up and event staffing by contacting MaryBeth Moore at marybethmoore@mac.com or 272-3123.

• Coming to our open house to see how your contributions are being put to use. Parents and business owners (no graduates!) are invited to walk through the Grad Night venue at BRHS on June 6 from 7 to 10 p.m.

Thank you all for your support of this very worthwhile event.

Joanne Remillard is the chair of the Bear River Grad Night Club.
