Filmmaker Bloebaum says, "'The Singing Life" is about the joy of singing with other people - choral singing. Right now more people sing in choirs than at any time in our history. But beyond that, I think there is an appreciation for seeing young people exposed to wonderful music and talking rather profoundly about its impact on them.
"NUHS has a well earned reputation for excellent choirs, and the Chamber Choir, from what I can tell, is an example of that continuing tradition. The kids are quite sophisticated regarding choral music in all its variety, and the kids who agreed to be interviewed were very open.
"And beyond that, I'm presenting this film as a pilot for a whole series of films about singing-the importance that singing has in our lives the world over: religious, spiritual, political, jazz, barbershop, world music, you name it. If I'm fortunate to find funding for this series, I can kiss retirement goodbye."
