Those interested to take the SAT and ACT tests, need to sign up now.

The deadline for the SAT test on June 7 is May 6. The next opportunity to take the test won't come until October.

The next ACT test date is June 14. The registration deadline is May 9.

One can register for SAT at www.collegeboard.com and for ACT at www.act.org.



The Nevada County Health Department will offer low cost children's immunization from 8 a.m. to 12 noon May 9 at the old Miners Clinic across from Gold Run School on 470 Searls Avenue in Nevada City.

No appointments are necessary. One, however, must bring one's child's immunization record. The shots are free for those with MediCal and Child Health and Disability Prevention Program. A $10 fee may be charged but no one will be turned away for not being able to pay.



A panel of experts will discuss the present and future of Sierra Nevada at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at the Rocklin campus of Sierra College.

The discussion is a part of the semester-long course called "Interdisciplinary 6: The Sierra Nevada," which examines the art, history, management and public policy of the Sierra Nevada region.

The panel includes Jim Branham, executive officer for the Sierra Nevada Conservancy; Jeff Darlington, executive director of Placer Land Trust; Jack Hanson, supervisor of Lassen County; Dan Macon, owner of the Flying Mule Ranch in Auburn and the founder of the California Rangeland Trust; Catherine Stifter, two-time Peabody Award-winning media producer and coordinator of the "Saving the Sierra: Voices of conservation in action" media project; and Jesikah Maria Ross, a documentarian and another coordinator of the "Saving the Sierra: Voices of Conservation in Action" media project.

The panel presentation will be in room LRC 107 of the Learning Resource Center of the Sierra College Rocklin campus. The lecture is open to the public, though campus parking permits are required.

Parking permits can be purchased for $1 at campus dispenser.
