The FFA team from Nevada Union High School won several accolades at the 80th annual State FFA Conference, recently held at the convention center in Fresno.

Twenty-eight FFA students from NU participated in the conference, competing in the parliamentary procedure contests and the speaking contests. They presented their FFA projects and ran for state office.

• Graham Blagg, a senior, was elected the new FFA vice president for the state. Blagg also won the Star State Farmer award and the state proficiency award for his project with cattle and sheep. In addition, he earned the sixth position statewide in extemporaneous speaking.

In his role as the state vice president, Blagg will represent 66,000 FFA members from California for the next year. He'll travel throughout the state and the country promoting agriculture and the youth involved in it.

• Elizabeth Steele, a junior, secured the top position in the state with her proficiency in a swine breeding project.

• The advanced parliamentary procedure team came sixth in the state. The team members were Aspen Ford, Zoe Toffaleti, Jenna Wirkner, Elizabeth Steele, Travis Seolas, Graham Blagg and Emilee Smith.

• The novice parliamentary procedure team came third in the state. The team members were Katie Bielen, Shelby McClelland, Samantha Fisher, Michael McKinzey, Jessica Milhous, Ben Granholm and Maddison Easley.
