Thank you, Telecare drivers
The folks at Meadow View Manor think a lot of the drivers who steer the Telecare vans all around Grass Valley and Nevada City, and wanted readers to know.

Telecare is a nonprofit organization that charges just $2 for a ride for seniors and disabled people who would be stuck at home without a way to get to the grocery store or to doctor appointments.

But the drivers go way beyond the call of duty to do things that are just plain human, like carrying a client's groceries.

So thank you to the unsung heroes of the Telecare vans!

LOOK FOR THE HOSPICE BUTTERFLIES
Hospice of the Foothills does so much for people who are dying and for the folks who love them. One of those special things is the Butterfly Garden of Remembrance every year over the Memorial Day weekend at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary’s cemetery in Nevada City.

Alice Teall and Diana Lemmon, of Friends of Hospice, want people to know they can place an order now to have remembrance cards put on the butterfly sculptures the volunteers will put up to commemorate the dear departed. A $15 donation is requested for each remem brance card, and they can be found at B& C Home Center, Weiss Brothers Nursery, Hooper and Weaver and Hospice of the Foothills.

Proceeds benefit Hospice of the Foothills. The big butterflies go up May 9. Watch for them from Highway 49. This year’s memorial dates are May 24-26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Even if you don’t have a loved one to memorialize, it’s a moving thing to see. There’s something heal ing about a ritual like this, and that’s how Memorial Day started out.

If you have some thoughts you’d like to share about someone who has died, e-mail them to readers@theunion.com and put “memorial” in the subject line, and we’ll print them in the Memorial Day edition of the paper. If you bring by photos, be sure to put the name of the deceased and your name and address to be sure they get returned.
