Members of the family who run the local Smith Vineyards are expected to open a sandwich shop at 104 Union Street in Nevada City before June 15, contractor Gary Tintle said Thursday.
Two other smaller retail spaces at the downtown Nevada City building still are up for lease, said Tintle, who built the brick structure.
Smitty's Sandwich Shop will serve beer and wine in a 1,430-square-foot shop that should seat between 45 and 50 customers, Tintle said. Outdoor seating will be offered as well.
Cindy and John Smith just signed the lease, and they plan to open for business before Father's Day. The family's Smith Vineyards in Grass Valley, on 11 acres on Dog Bar Road, is one of the better-known area wineries.
Tintle is leasing much of the remaining space in the building, including the entire second floor, to the Nevada County District Attorney's Office.
Longtime Nevada City resident Lowell Robinson is an owner of the building, the site of a former Shell gasoline station.
