Bear River Blood drive a success

Greg Remillard, a senior at Bear River High School, sent this:

"Thank you to all of the Bear River students and staff who donated at the recent blood drive. Thanks to your support, we were able to secure 129 life-saving pints of blood. This was an all-time school record!"

Way to go, Bear River!

Play to benefit

bed-ridden local

Reader Jeff Russell sent this:

"Jim Blodgett is a longtime Nevada City resident and a broadcaster for The Men's Show on KVMR. In October he had multiple heart surgeries, and he has been bed-ridden and in the hospital continually for the last six months.

"Richard Winters is a theater artist and an acting teacher for children and adults for 30 years. He has directed many productions and musicals for the Grass Valley Center for the Arts

"On Wednesday, Richard will perform a world premier of his latest, one-man play, 'Sleeping in the Middle of the Bed.' This is a benefit for Jim Blodgett. ... Men will see themselves, and women will see into men. In part, the play is about divorce. It is also about being a man."

It opens at 7 p.m. at the Off Center Stage, 315 Richardson St., behind the Grass Valley Center for the Arts, downtown Grass Valley. Ninety percent of proceeds will go directly into a fund in Jim's name, Jeff promises.

Shop isn't wow'S

Rose Johnson, that busy woman who helps run Women of Worth, wants people to know that their thrift shop isn't theirs anymore.

She writes:

"Every week, we continue to receive inquiries from folks by phone or who drop in at the thrift store wanting to donate something to the Women of Worth thrift store.

"In January 2005, Women of Worth's Gift and Thrift Shop changed hands and became HOPE Gift & Thrift, supporting the Food Bank of Nevada County.

"The phone number stayed the same, and the Food Bank is still getting calls and donations for W.O.W.

"We appreciate our customers' loyalty and support and invite the community to visit our Web site at www.women-of-worth.org for other ways to get involved with and support Women of Worth.
