Local Roundup: Bruins rack up 15 hits in rout of rival Placer

Bear River reeled off 15 hits, six runs in the first inning and beat Placer 9-1 Wednesday in the Pioneer Valley League.
"All three outs (in the first inning) were at the plate," Bear River coach Duane Zauner said. "We were testing 'em."
Kelly Shepard went perfect through two innings, striking out all six batters. She finished with nine strikeouts on the day, giving up only one hit in five innings.
Kenzie Billings pitched in relief for Bear River, giving up a home run while striking out one and walking another.
Katie Mathis caught a leaping line drive and tossed out another Placer base runner for a double play, Zauner said.
Courtney Ceo and Shepard batted 3-for-4 each with Ceo knocking a triple and Shepard slapping out two doubles.
Tori Humbard, Brooke Mosman and Jasmine McGown each batted 2-for-4 with Humbart chipping in two RBIs and McGown a double.
Bear River (19-2, 6-0 PVL) travels to play Lincoln Friday.
Baseball
Del Oro 16, Nevada Union 9
Nevada Union had a strong day at the plate, but not in the field, as the Miners fell to Del Oro 16-9 in Sierra Foothill League baseball.
Kelcey Wirick led the way with a two-run homer, while David Wilkins and Robbie Porter each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Porter had double, as did Broughan Jantz, Dalton Covert, Travis Custer and Ralph.
"We hit the ball very well today," said NU coach Ted White. "We had 12 hits, but we also made nine errors. And that's the story of the ballgame, right there.
"All of our pitchers threw well. We just booted the ball all over the place."
Zander Zeisler drew the start, while Henry Harrison, Kyler Caldwell and Jared Ralph also saw time on the mound.
NU (6-12 overall, 3-8 SFL) travels to Del Oro Friday.
JV: Nevada Union 12, Del Oro 5
Nevada union had 10 hits as the Miners beat Del Oro 12-5 Wednesday.
Matt Blesio, who pitched for NU, batted 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Alec Giron, who pitched in relief, went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored as well.
NU (5-6) hosts Del Oro on Friday.
Frosh: Nevada Union 8,
Del Oro 6
Richie Osborne went 3-for-4 at the plate and also struck out three in earning a save on the mound, as Nevada Union's freshman team scored an 8-6 win over Del Oro Wednesday.
Matt Eccarius picked up the win, striking out eight and allowing four runs in five innings of work. Adam Custer also threw one-third of an inning, allowing one run.
Tyler Lyckberg and Andrew Smith each had two hits in the win.
NU (3-7-1) hosts Del Oro at 4 p.m. Friday.
Tennis
Marysville 9,
Forest Lake Christian 0
FLC coach Steve Robinson said he couldn't recall the last time his Falcons finished a match without any victories, but that was the case on Tuesday as Marysville blanked FLC 9-0.
"I guess there's a first time for everything," Robinson said.
FLC nearly pulled out a point at No. 1 girls singles, where Caitlin Hansen and Jen Menary fell by a 10-8 count in the pro set.
Forest Lake (3-10 overall, 2-8 Golden Empire League) travels to Highlands at 3 p.m. Friday.
Soccer
Granite Bay 2, Nevada Union 0
After a scoreless first half, Granite Bay pulled away after the break for a 2-0 Sierra Foothill League soccer win over the Miners.
"Even in the loss, the defense led by Abby Velasquez, Anne Dunne, Molly Augustus played a very solid game," NU coach Mike Voss said. " The midfield was led by Jocelyn Rapp and Stephanie Collins. Also, up top at forward, Alana Migliardi had a great game."
Nevada Union (4-5-8 overall, 1-3-4 league) is back in action April 23 at Del Oro.
JV: Granite Bay 1,
Nevada Union 0
Laureli Overbeek had four saves in goal for Nevada Union's junior varsity soccer squad in the first half - and Haley Croft added six more in the second half - but the Grizzlies pulled out 1-0 win Wednesday.
NU's JV team slipped to 8-5-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the SFL.

Lincoln 3, Bear River 0
The Bear River varsity girls soccer team lost a hard fought game 3-0 to host Lincoln Tuesday in Pioneer Valley League soccer.
Lincoln got its first goal 17 minutes into the first half, but Bear River fought back to keep the score at 1-0 at the half.
The Zebras scored their second goal off a penalty kick 22 minutes into the second half and with five minutes remaining in the game, they were able to find the net once again.
The Bruins (2-4-1 PVL) host El Dorado at 3:30 p.m. today.
Swimming
Girls: Bear River 104, Placer 66
The Bear River girls captured first place in 10 out of 11 events, advancing to 3-0 in PVL competition and setting the stage for a showdown with undefeated El Dorado this Friday at Bear River.
The Bruins are trying to secure their second consecutive PVL Championship with a win over El Dorado.
Bear River's Allison Dayton took first place in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly with times of 2:22.81 and 1:03.43, respectively. Elana Faria took first place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.65 and the 100 backstroke in 1:08.63.
Stephanie Ursiny took first place in the 50 freestyle clocking in at 26.61. The relay combination of Bear River's Shelby Jungers, Megan Ballew, Dayton and Ursiny took first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.13. Dayton, Ballew, Ursiny, and Faria later took first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:47.53.
Chloe Lyon and Melissa Clark, took first and second, respectively, in the 200 free with times of 2:16.67 and 2:17.07. Lyon and Clark repeated this 1-2 combination in the 500 free in 6:19.53 and 6:20.06, respectively. The relay team of Caitlin Billingham, Vanessa O'Neill, Emmalyn Kirby, and Faria finished the day by taking first place in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:05.81.
Boys: Placer 94, Bear River 76
The Bear River boys fell to Placer, as the Bruins took first in four out of 11 events.
The Bruins are now 2-1 in PVL competition and look to get back on track against El Dorado this Friday at Bear River Aquatics Center.
Bear River's Chase Rogers took first in both the 50 free and 100 free with times of 22.3 and 52.3, respectively. Rogers also joined teammates Robby Stoddart, Chad Fond, and Tony Scopelli for a first place in the 200 freestyle relay. Tony Scopelli took first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:40.15.
