Pleasant Valley and Ready Springs Union School Districts recently selected Debra Sandoval their new joint superintendent.
Sandoval is now the superintendent-principal at Alta-Dutch Flat Elementary School District in Placer County. She will join her new position in July 1 and succeed Superintendent Jim Voss, whos retiring June 30.
I am delighted and very excited, Sandoval said. Im impressed with both the school districts. Their number one interest is in providing the best education for every student. I think theyve hired exceptional staff. Theres a great deal of enthusiasm and joy that I sensed among the board members, staff and parents. Im looking forward to being a part of their team.
Sandoval has been an educator for 24 years, she said.
Im passionate about helping teachers and principals help kids, Sandoval said. I understand children. I have an inborn love of children. They are our most cherished resource for the future of our country.
Sandoval has been hired on a two-year contract with an annual salary of $108,000, annual health benefits worth $6,898, annual travel allowance of $2,400 and a $5,000 annual incentive if she meets the goals established by the two school districts, said Denise Loberg, president of the board of trustees of Pleasant Valley School District.
The two school districts had received 24 applications for the position, said Tina Skrukrud, member of the Pleasant Valley board of trustees and chair of the search committee.
(Sandoval) seems to have a lot of knowledge and is a lifelong learner, Skrukrud said. She has a good personality, good community involvement. Thats the type of person we were looking for.
(Sandoval) is a very bright lady, very talented and a very well-rounded person, Loberg said. She is very approachable, very likable and has a positive demeanor.
(During the interview) she shared over and over that she collaborates about everything. She wanted to know about the students, their parents and the teachers. Thats definitely what we want within our district. We are a family and we want everyone to be a part of the decision-making team, Loberg said.
Sandoval, 55, started her teaching career 24 years ago at Pliocene Ridge Elementary School near Camptonville, Sandoval said. After being with that school for 17 years as a teachers and a principal, she became the superintendent-principal at the Alta-Dutch Flat Elementary School District, Sandoval added.
Debra Sandoval has lived outside of North San Juan for about 30 years with her husband Dave Sandoval, she said. They have a son and a daughter and four granddaughters, she added.
Pleasant Valley and Ready Springs Union School Districts are operated through a single district office. The two districts both in Penn Valley share the same superintendent and district office staff.
Pleasant Valley School District includes William Ranch School and Pleasant Valley School. Ready Springs Union School District consists of Ready Springs School and Vantage Point Charter School.
