A baseball field behind Seven Hills Middle School was dedicated Wednesday after extensive refurbishing with funds from Nevada County and the Nevada City Elementary School District.

The renovation project was a collaboration by the schools, the county and Nevada City Little League, said Donna Fitting, business manager of the Nevada City school district.

"The Nevada City Little League uses several of our school fields and facilities," Fitting said. "Whenever you have community facilities that can be used by multiple agencies without conflicting schedules, it's a perfect situation."

The total project cost about $35,000, of which the county gave about $19,000, Fitting said. The school district provided the rest of the money from last year's maintenance budget especially reserved for the upkeep of facilities, Fitting added.

Upgrades include grooming the infield and outfield, adding new benches, bleachers and a drinking fountain, a backstop and permanent bases, Fitting said.
